CliP-ComE – Climate Competences in European Historic Houses

Here at European Historic Houses we highlight the necessity for owners to align their historic properties with national climate policies, manage energy costs and protect against climate damage. This requires specialised skills and informed decision-making from both craftsmen and owners. To address this challenge, we have partnered up with the European Heritage Academy and created CliP-ComE, a 2 year project funded by Creative Europe.

TRAININGS

CliP-ComE is a EU-funded project aiming to raise awareness and training people to become advisors to help historic house owners and professional across Europe with the necessary knowledge and skills to reduce CO2 emissions and improve energy efficiency in historic houses, directly supporting the European Union’s climate goals. To ensure this knowledge is widely spread, the project will utilise the train-the-trainers concept; this means it will train specialists who can then go on to train others, creating a ripple effect of knowledge dissemination.

A panel of “Climate Protection Guards” will be established to serve as the go-to source for the most up-to-date knowledge on European and National policies that align with the goals of CliP-ComE. They will provide expert guidance on navigating there policies and ensuring compliance while achieving energy efficiency and CO2 reduction in historic buildings.

WHO DOES IT BENEFIT?

CliP-ComE is a win-win project. By putting this initative into practice at European historic sites, a significant contribution is made towards meeting European climate targets. Furthermore, this project perfectly aligns with the European Commission’s “Year of Skills 2023”, demonstrating the power of developing specialised skills to address real-world issues.

Kick-off meeting

In February 2024, the partners met in person in Brussels for an intense two-day meeting where they organised the project outcomes, goals and strategy. As part of this kick-off, the partners also had the opportunity to enjoy a private visit to one of the most sought-after town houses in Brussels due its architectural style and owner’s privateness: Maison Saint-Cyr.

CliP-ComE brings together five partners from three different European countries:

  1. Burghauptmannschaft Österreich, Vienna (Austria)
  2. European Certification & Qualification Association, Krems (Austria)
  3. European Historic Houses, Brussels (Belgium)
  4. IVEM Heritage and Marketing, Amsterdam (The Netherlands)
  5. UBW Unternehmensberatung Wagenhofer, Vienna (Austria)
